Auslan Level 1 – Introduction to Sign Language

Learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language) can help members of the deaf and hard of hearing community to communicate with family, workmates and others. Learn frequently used signs, hand shapes, introductions and greetings, age, time and months, people and relationships, deaf culture and communication, Auslan variations and HOLME.

Basic Carpentry Skills

Women only group working on your own carpentry projects with support from our experienced trainer.

Learning to work with wood, the basic tools and equipment to complete a project, and creating your projects in this introduction to the basic principles and practical skills of carpentry incorporating problem-solving, work coordination, and cooperative teamwork skills.

Develop knowledge and an overall introduction to lead into a career in working with wood or setting up of a home-based business or even just for a hobby.

Cup Cake Making and Decorating

A fully hands-on program to make and bake delicious cup cakes. Recipes are shared with all bakers.

Practise making that perfect cake batter everytime that is both moist and light and fluffy.

Then learn the art of decorating with a range of ideas for kids parties or family birthdays. Whipping up the buttercream from scratch. Learn how to colour and flavour your buttercream Let your imagination run wild.

Practise and improve your piping techniques to deliver eye catching decorations.

The finished product will be a perfectly presented, to take home and impress your friends and family with…. all baked from scratch by you!

Volunteering in your Community

This program will prepare people of all abilities for active participation in a volunteer role as a pathway to potential employment or further education.

Build and practise your employability skills in a practical volunteer role across our organisation and other local community organisations.

Know what skills you have and match those skills to the different volunteer opportunities our local community can offer you.

During this program the learners will be offered a practical placement to put the skills learnt into a workplace environment.

Upcycled Clothing

A fully hands-on program to make and upcycling clothing involves taking old or pre-loved garments and turning them into something new and unique.

Items can be selected from our Op Shop or just bring something from home that you would like to freshen up.

This process can involve cutting and sewing, adding new embellishments, or repurposing the fabric into a new garment.

The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that is both fashionable and sustainable.

At the end of the program show off your work in a Fashion Parade.

How to Journal – Monday

One of the ways to deal with any overwhelming emotion is to find a healthy way to express yourself. This makes a journal a helpful tool in managing your mental health.

 Celtic Mythology & Storytelling Program – Friday

Join us in a program drawing forth ancestral wisdom through the invocation of 9,000 year old mythology.

Local storyteller Melanie Blacksmith invites you to sit in circle in the way of our Ancestors, where we awaken bone memory through story, creative expression and the deep listening of sharing circle. Sharing is encouraged but not compulsory.

Writing with a Purpose

Feel more confident about your reading and writing skills in everyday situations. Increase your employment prospects. Topics include reading instructions and signs, filling out forms and more. This small group will focus on the individual learning needs of each student.

COVID19 Guarantee

In the event of increased COVID19 restrictions:
Where programs have already commenced, HLLC will schedule make-up sessions.
Where programs are yet to commence, HLLC will provide a class credit to be used within 12 months.

Staying Safe

We are open with COVID safe protocols in place, and we are happy to be welcoming our community back to HLLC. If you are visiting our office we ask that you check in at reception upon arrival, and continue to observe good hand hygiene practices and social distancing guidelines.
