Women’s Shed – Woodwork Skills

Women only group working on your own carpentry projects with support from our experienced trainer.

Learning to work with wood, the basic tools and equipment to complete a project, and creating your projects in this introduction to the basic principles and practical skills of carpentry incorporating problem-solving, work coordination, and cooperative teamwork skills.

Develop knowledge and an overall introduction to lead into a career in working with wood or setting up of a home-based business or even just for a hobby.

Women’s Shed – Home Maintenance Skills

Women Only

In this hands-on program, you will learn about:

  • various tools both hand and power tools
  • how to use them safely
  • basic carpentry
  • plastering and repairing holes in walls
  • painting
  • changing tap washers and
  • much more.

This program is designed for those who want to learn home maintenance and don’t know where to start. You will gain knowledge and the confidence to start to maintain and beautify your home.

We have practical onsite tasks to be completed as part of the program ensuring this program is hands on and practical.

Upcycled Clothing

A fully hands-on program to make and upcycling clothing involves taking old or pre-loved garments and turning them into something new and unique.

Items can be selected from our Op Shop or just bring something from home that you would like to freshen up.

This process can involve cutting and sewing, adding new embellishments, or repurposing the fabric into a new garment.

The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that is both fashionable and sustainable.

At the end of the program show off your work in a Fashion Parade.

Journaling – a tool to improve mental health

One of the ways to deal with any overwhelming emotion is to find a healthy way to express yourself.

Getting started is the hardest thing, so let us help you to learn how to journal and discover how it can help you to manage your mental health and improve your literacy skills along the journey.

Journaling can help you:

  • Manage anxiety
  • Reduce stress
  • Cope with depression

Writing with a Purpose

Feel more confident about your reading and writing skills in everyday situations. Increase your employment prospects.

Topics include reading instructions and signs, filling out forms and more.

This small group will focus on the individual learning needs of each learner.

Nature Journaling

Join each week for a nature journaling workshop featuring fun and engaging activities that build the skills of a scientist, naturalist, artist, and observer. Appropriate for adults of all ages and children, this program will connect science, language arts, math, visual arts, critical thinking, and mindfulness.

Nature Journaling is collecting and organizing your observations, questions, connections, and explanations on the pages of a notebook using words pictures, and numbers.

Nature journaling is the practice of drawing or writing. in response to observations of nature, which results in the creation of a nature journal.

You don’t need to be an accomplished artist or writer.

Volunteering in your Community

This program will prepare people of all abilities for active participation in a volunteer role as a pathway to potential employment or further education.

Build and practise your employability skills in a practical volunteer role across our organisation and other local community organisations.

Know what skills you have and match those skills to the different volunteer opportunities our local community can offer you.

During this program the learners will be offered a practical placement to put the skills learnt into a workplace environment.

In the event of increased COVID19 restrictions:
Where programs have already commenced, HLLC will schedule make-up sessions.
Where programs are yet to commence, HLLC will provide a class credit to be used within 12 months.
